Betel palm / Betel nut (Areca catechu)

Description

In much of Asia, the seeds of this plant (also called “Betel nuts”) produce “Betel Bite”, a mood enhancer. This remedy is prepared by wrapping parts of the seeds – along with some burnt lime, uncaria gambir and spices – in a fresh Betel pepper leaf. There are many recipes with many flavor variations. The ingredients are often grown in special Betel Gardens, where the two varieties – Betel palm and Betel pepper – are grown together.
